  • Heart condition – Pre existing or not?

What if someone has had heart surgery in the past and has now fully recovered and plans to visit USA on visitor visa. So any issues relating to heart going forward are considered to be pre existing?

Also, I read some place that Cancer is considered pre-existing even though it might not have been diagnosed earlier or prior to the visit to USA, since cancer doesn’t occur over night. So basically with that logic heat conditions don’t occur overnight too. These all build up with time. So what is really pre-existing?

Thanks for the link i read through that.
      So basically,
      • If you have had a heart condition, you will not be covered.
      • Even if you have not had heart condition, you may get denied since heart attack can be termed as manifestation of underlying undiagnosed condition.

All in all insurance will help in accidental injury, flu, fever and not in case of major illness.

Unless explicitly mentioned in a particular plan, heart attack is not explicitly excluded. It all depends upon the specifics of the individual case. We have seen heart attacks being covered as well as excluded.

Major illnesses are not excluded automatically. If it is a new medical condition that occurs after the effective date of the policy, it would be covered.

I hope that answers your questions.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here or contact us at any time.

Following is from the link you provided.
Q: If my mother-in-law has diabetes and high blood pressure, won't any new medical conditions like heart attack be considered pre-existing conditions as well? I guess the insurance company will try to tie any new medical conditions with pre-existing conditions. If that is the case, why should I buy visitors insurance?
A: While it is possible that pre-existing medical conditions may cause some new medical conditions. If that happens, then new medical conditions would also be not covered.
So what if someone has had heart surgery? based on the text above (and on the site), further heart emergencies will be considered as Pre-existing.

It is also mentioned at as long as a person takes medication for a condition that will be considered preexisting. Heart patients after surgery do take drugs for life so in that scenario any heart related condition will be termed as pre-existing. True?

As I clarified earlier, there is no way to answer hypothetical questions like that.

It depends upon the specifics of individual case which vary.

It will be decided at the time of claim based on medical records and physician report.

No, there is nothing hypothetical here. It is a very specific and direct query. If a person has had heart surgery, and is on medications, is healthy now, has not had any issues in last 2 years, , has been given clean chit by Doctor/surgeon to travel. What if that person develops heart related issues while travelling USA. Will that be considered pre-existing or not from the insurance standpoint? Now, if that is considered pre-existing, what options will that person have with regards to getting any insurance.

                The answer remains the same.

There is no way to know in advance like that.

                  Ok, one last question.

For Comprehensive plan, there is a Max out of the pocket amount. Website says it is per person (assuming insurance is purchased for couple), so each person is covered up to that max amount. How does deductible work in that case, is that per person too? Or it is total deductible for two people.

Assuming insurance max is for 50,000 so that will mean each will get maximum of 50,000 benefits.
If deductible is 1000, will that mean 1000 for each person or 1000 for both (assuming couple option is picked while purchasing insurance)

Everything such as the deducitble, out of pocket max and policy maximum are per person.

The prices are also per person.

Whether you buy together or separate, everything is per person either way.

You see the combined price for your convenience and for making one payment together.

There is nothing as such that you need to get insurance for prospective illness or conditions that you assume may occur. its present based and pre-conditions only
